Meet Richard

Richard B. Huttner.

Denver criminal defense attorney since 1993. Founding member of the National College of DUI Defense. Trial lawyer first.

Count I.The work
RBH

Richard has defended the criminally accused in Colorado for more than thirty-three years. He has tried more than one hundred jury trials and handled several thousand cases to completion — covering charges from first-offense DUI through vehicular homicide, sexual assault, and federal computer crimes.

Richard works alone. You work with Richard. Not an associate, not a paralegal, not a case manager rotating you through a queue. You won’t be passed off to an associate; the lawyer who answers your first call is the one who will sit with you at counsel table.

Most criminal cases resolve before trial. The ones that resolve well — dismissed, reduced, pled to outcomes that preserve the client’s record — resolve that way because the prosecution knows the defense can try the case if it has to. Trial readiness is what changes the offer. There is no shortcut around that work.

Count II.Background

A family practice, then a trial practice of his own.

Fresh out of law school in 1993, Richard joined his father and brother in their family-law and personal-injury practice — building the criminal-defense side of the firm while his father handled domestic matters and his brother ran the PI side. When his father retired, Richard opened his own practice focused entirely on criminal defense and DUI work.

Three decades later, that focus has not changed. The work is criminal defense. The cases are tried, not farmed out.

Count III.How Richard practices

One lawyer per case.

Richard handles each case personally, from intake through disposition. The lawyer you meet at the first consultation is the lawyer who appears with you at every hearing and, if the case goes that far, tries it.

Plain talk, fees up front.

What the case looks like. What it will cost. What the realistic outcomes are. Stated plainly at the first meeting, before any engagement. Clients hear an honest assessment, not a sales pitch — and not a number that grows over time.

Tried, not just filed.

Richard has tried more than a hundred cases to a jury. That record is part of what changes the offer the prosecution puts on the table — and what makes it worth taking, when it is.
